Cover Lust and Giveaway : Black City by Elizabeth Richards

A dark and tender postapocalyptic love story set in the aftermath of a bloody war

In a city where humans and Darklings are now separated by a high wall and tensions between the two races still simmer after a terrible war, sixteen-year-olds Ash Fisher, a half-blood Darkling, and Natalie Buchanan, a human and the daughter of the Emissary, meet and do the unthinkable—they fall in love. Bonded by a mysterious connection, that causes Ash’s long dormant heart to beat, Ash and Natalie first deny and then struggle to fight their forbidden feelings for each other, knowing if they’re caught they’ll be executed—but their feelings are too strong. When Ash and Natalie then find themselves at the center of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to pull the humans and Darklings back into war, they must make hard choices that could result in both their deaths.

  1. I think it looks very beautiful, because it's not overloaded but reduced to the most important, simple things. Also the colours are very wonderful. I love that mix of black, white and red.

Thank you for this giveaway, the book seems to be awesome!

  4. I find the premise very intriguing and I know that I just have to read it now. However, more than anything, it's the cover that caught my attention when I first loaded this page. I think it's very interesting how it first appears to be rain or shards of glass pouring down on the city scape but it's in actual fact shred of rose petals pouring down. I would love to own this beautiful cover and have it displayed on my bookshelf. Thanks for this chance:)

  17. The cover is VERY cool :) It totally looks different from most of te other covers I see coming out which is neat.

And I love that the author has her own artwork to go along with the book! It reminds me of Legend by Marie Lu- Marie has drawn up so many cool images to portray the characters from the book. I like getting a glimpse into the author's head that way :)

  34. Black City sounds AmAzInG! The cover is very striking-- it proves that you don't always need people on the front cover to make a lasting impression.

  48. In all honesty - I initially and generally wouldn't want to step 10ft near this kind of book. The cover looks pretty cluttered (even if the image of an exploding rose looks somewhat interesting) and lackluster but it was the summary that got to me. While the premise of a forbidden romance (which is most books isn't) is something that is unfortunately being done to death nowadays, this synopsis looks like it is promising enough to show how highly problematic and forbidden/impossible their relationship really is. But maybe I am just being way too hopeful and need a good ol' romance book in my life.

  49. I love the picture the author drew! Anyways..I absolutely adore the cover, it's so beautiful. I love the rose bursts into lots of glass-like shards! And the black city behind it!
